The Office Spine

If you work in an office, you’ll often find that with a bad chair, your back will hurt on a regular basis. Not only is this uncomfortable for you to sit on as you work, it’s also going to make doing anything else even more difficult, from driving home that evening to wincing as you’re filling out your Aviva Life forms and cooking dinner. So how can you avoid it?

For starters, make sure you’ve got a good chair! You can duct-tape as many cushions to it as you like, but a chair with a good shape and a lot of lumbar and neck support is really going to help. Not only does it mean not having to assemble your own chair’s comfortable cushioned areas, but it also means that you’re using something specifically designed by experts to keep your spine in shape.

It’s also worth noting that you need to sit in a comfortable way that’s not going to hurt you. Yes, we know you love to sit leaned back and on one side as you bash out that report for tomorrow, but realistically, if you don’t spend time sitting up and straight, your spine is going to pay the price, and therefore so are you! Try and take care of yourself by sitting in a way that you know will help your spine to relax and let a little of the pressure of your body off of itself.

Finally, take the time to let your muscles and your back relax at home. If you don’t feel like doing sports tonight, relax, and if you want to lie down on a comfortable sofa, then do so! We’re always happy to help you here, but we’d rather not see you at all, as then we’d know you wouldn’t be in any pain! Holiday Health Tips; Manhattan, New York:

So the holiday season is upon us. Yay! But with that ‘Yay’ can often come a few ‘Nay’s’ as well. Here’s some quick tips to help you stay strong and healthy this holiday season.

First of all, i’m sure you’ve all noticed the sudden change in weather. It’s hits you like a brick wall when you step outside in Manhattan and i’m sure the rest of the country isn’t to far behind, or, ahead for that matter.

  1. So, first things first – Stay warm! Keep your muscles warm and loose by bundling up. Cold muscle are far more susceptible to injury and often a simple task that was quite easy can become problematic or even cause a low back injury.
  2. As the season’s change so do your body’s nutritional needs.  Take proper precautions and load up on Vitamin D – D3 that is.  As winter comes around we have far less sun exposure and even less so if you followed my advice in step one to bundle up!  Vitamin D3 has been shown to support normal immune function, lift mood and help fight seasonal depression that comes around this time of year for many.  Personally, I take 5,000 iu a day during this time of year.  It’s an excellent way to fight off the Flu also.
  3. Manage stress.  Holiday times can be stressful.  If you’re holiday shopping season is anything like that crazy lady in the target commercial then you know what i’m talking about.  It’s like you’re training for a covert spy mission – it’s war out there!  So be careful, don’t over do it and most importanlty don’t neglect your self.  Take a step back, get a massage or take a yoga class to help you unwind.  My personal favorite is a trip to the Russian bath house for a nice sauna and a steam.
  4. Lastly, easy on the eggnog.  Just kidding.  But seriously, with all the holiday parties going on keep a tab on your alcohol intake and also your belt line.  There is no need to use the holiday season as an excuse to overindulge.  Stay true to yourself and don’t over do it.

It’s not rocket science.  Just some simple tips to keep you focused on yourself as well this holiday season.
